Custom What Is Viagra? Essay

In light of the 21st century, the male child has been rather neglected regarding some key aspects of life such as education, health, and even employment opportunities with preference being given to the feminine gender. However, males find solace in their sexual prestige as they are even considered to be polygamous by nature. Sexual prestige is fundamental to boosting masculinity, and this has brought about an argument as to the widespread use of Viagra and its known side-effects.

This essay shall focus on broken masculinity and using Viagra as a tool for repair. Whilst this drug has largely gained popularity with sales raking in over a billion dollars annually, I am of the argument that Viagra should only be used under a doctor’s instructions, whether for purposes of ego-boosting or curing erectile dysfunctions.

Discussion

Haraway defines the human body as a machine in which all organs are integrated to perform the given functions. Whenever an organ is not performing accordingly, then the whole body won’t be performing accordingly. In the case of broken masculinity, issues are graver than that. It is stigmatic as it destroys the male-dominant ego by depriving him of his manhood.

Viagra has been given a nod by medical practitioners and even by consumers. It has played a great role in restoring manhood for those who had been deprived of it. Michael S. Kimmel (2000_ states that “Every man you meet has a rating or an estimation of himself that he never looses or forgets”. Viagra has helped men improve their ratings by oppressing the stigma brought about by the broken masculinity.

What is Viagra?

Viagra (Sildenafil) is an orally administered drug designed essentially to cure erectile dysfunctions. It was patented in 1996 but was not available till 1998 and has since been in the market with lots of success.

Advantages of Viagra

 Viagra in Curing Erectile Dysfunctions

Since its realization, Viagra has been the leading drug in fighting erectile dysfunctions as it boosts sexual performance to levels which would rather be unachievable under normal body functionalities. Agai, 2009 even argues that Viagra has the ability to supplement the human’s heart performance and could thus be used as a life saver if taken in low doses.

 Viagra in Boosting Masculinity

Michael S. Kimmel (2000) defines homophobia as “the fear that other men will unmask us, emasculate us, reveal to us and the world that we do not measure up,” To counter this, Meika Loe (2001) believes that Viagra boosts masculinity by giving men, with either severe erectile dysfunctions or mild erectile dysfunctions, some form of confidence. Others even take it to supplement their natural functionalities.

Disadvantages of Viagra

  Viagra Undermines Feminism

Women consider Viagra a threat to feminism as it does not care to mind if the mate (female) is in the mood or not. Geraldine Robertson is even of the opinion that Viagra does nothing for women.  This is quite arguable though, since males are born dominant by nature and females are born submissive. Feminism has also had a boost by the introduction of female Viagra.

  Viagra-Related Side Effects

The use of Viagra has a long list of harmful effects, and it is thus recommended that only those with erectile dysfunctions use it, and those who only wish to use it for supplementary functions use it in the smallest of doses.

Conclusion

In summary, the use of Viagra is left as an open option for all but one should strictly adhere to the doctor’s prescription. It cannot be ruled out but still remains the most efficient tool when it comes to fixing broken masculinity. Broken masculinity and resulting stigmatic effects are well avoided by Viagra, and this provides the society with the suitable gender equity.
