Free Example of Women in Combat Essay

In 1960, the inception of feminism was starting to push various agendas for women. At that time, women were trying to push agendas relating to equality. According to feminism, women were capable of doing what men were doing. For this reason, women had the right to join the military and serve in active duty. Since that time, women have been registering themselves to serve the military on active duty. Currently, there are more than fifteen percent of women serving in the military for active duty (Mattocks, Haskell, Justice, Yano, & Brandt, 2012). However, certain facts dictate that women should not serve in combat for active duty. Additionally, women should not join the military due to the various implications they have when they join the military. Therefore, women should not serve in combat because of medical reasons, they will distract military operations, they lower performance in the military, they will kill the morale in the military, they are prone to sexual harassments and finally, they are prone to pregnancies.

Women are at risk of more medical complications as compared to men when they are serving in combat. First, women suffer extreme mental conditions when they come back from active duty as compared to men. This is because women have various tasks at home. They are in charge of taking care of their families by cooking and bringing up the children (Mona, 2003). Additionally, they are more emotional as compared to their male counter parts. Therefore, when women go to active duty, they live their children and families in the hands of relatives or surviving spouses. When they come back home, they find their children already grown up making it impossible for them to catch up with what has been happening in their lives (Mona, 2003). Finally, these emotions crop up leading to suffering of severe mental illness (Mota, Medved, Wang, Asmundson, Whitney & Sareen, 2011). According to statistics, they have difficulties in healing as compared to them. For this reason, it is too risky for them to serve in active duty.

Women are a distraction to serious military protocols when they serve in active duties. According to reality, it is human nature for men to get an erection when they encounter a beautiful woman or when they are in the presences of a woman. It is human nature for men to have sexual urges when they are in active duty. In this situation, they might start having relationships with women while serving in active duty. This often distracts men while they are in active duty. Active duty is a risky operation that requires full attention from all military personnel who are in active duty. If there are distractions, the military personnel serving in active duty might be endangering their lives in risking operations. In most cases, the operation might fail. On the other hand, if women were not serving in combat, this will not happen. The personnel serving on active duty will fully concentrate on the risky operations. For this reason, women should not serve in combat.

According to statistics, when feminism started and women were joining the military, average performance in the military was reducing significantly. The training that goes on in the military is extremely vigorous and rough. This training is for the purposes of toughening military personnel to reduce the chances of failing while they are in active duty. Biologically, some of these training drills are extremely difficult for the women (Skaine, 2011). Women are not capable of handling certain drills. Therefore, due to feminism, the military has to make sure that the training the men are getting is similar to what the women are getting. In this case, the military had to change their training drills so that they accommodate women in military (Skaine, 2011). As a result, this was drastically reducing overall performance in the military. For this reason, women should not serve in the military because they are lowering the overall performance of the military.

When women are serving in combat, they kill the morale of military personnel serving in active duty. According to military traditions, the military was a man’s job (Skaine, 1999). This means that women were not supposed to take active duty and defend the men or their country as military personnel. Instead, women should take care of the men when they come back from active duty. In addition, military personnel know that women are not capable of performing well than the men (Skaine, 1999). For this reason, they are immensely afraid of what will happen if the women are taking active duty in the military. Sources say that military leaders are afraid of leading a platoon composing of men and women because they know women are going to bring them down. If these leaders happen to state that women are weak, they are risking discharge from the military (Skaine, 1999). Therefore, they prefer to keep quiet so that they cannot be discharged. In this case, women should not serve in combat for purposes of improving morale in the military increasing the chances of success.

Women in the military are prone to sexual harassment yet they cannot be able to protect themselves or tell anyone. In this case, they are suffering in silence. According to scholars, men are susceptible to sexual urges when they are in the presence of an attractive woman (Mattocks, Haskell, Justice, Yano, & Brandt, 2012). In a military situation, women are at risk of being sexually harassed. This is because when they are serving in active duty, they are away from the social environment they are used to at home. Additionally, men are not exposed to other women as compared to the other environment they are used to when they are back at home (Mattocks, Haskell, Justice, Yano, & Brandt, 2012). Therefore, the only women they are exposed to are the ones who they are serving with in the military. For this reason, the men are likely to harass the women sexually to fulfill their sexual urges. Moreover, the men are at an advantage because most of them are leaders of these platoons. If the women say a word of this, they are likely to be dishonorably discharged. In the end, they are going to suffer emotional trauma (Mattocks, Haskell, Justice, Yano, & Brandt, 2012). For this fact, women should not serve in combat because they are at risk of sexual harassment leading to sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

Finally, women are prone to unwanted pregnancies when they are in combat. According to biological researchers, women and men have sexual urges thus making them to be prone to activities of socialization (Mattocks, Haskell, Justice, Yano & Brandt, 2012). When the government is putting both men and women on active duty, they forget that these people are human beings and they need to fulfill their human urges. For this reason, they end up having relationships while in active duty (Mattocks, Haskell, Justice, Yano & Brandt, 2012). As a result, they have sexual intercourse. In most cases, when they are in active duty, they do not have family planning methods available for them. This leads to pregnancies among the women. For this reason, they have to be taken back to their homes so that they can deliver children and heal their wounds. This takes them more than a year to heal (Mattocks, Haskell, Justice, Yano & Brandt, 2012). This means that the active military operations they were performing have to take a setback because one of their members had to go home. This shows that it is affecting military operations significantly. Therefore, women should not serve in active duty because they are prone to pregnancies leading to various setbacks in military operations.

Conclusion

According to feminism, women are supposed to get equal chances as the men in all aspects. Women have been fighting battles so that they can have equal chances as the men in the world. However, attaining feminism in 1965 meant that women could be able to join the military. This decision was surrounded by various implications. First, the women are at risk of more medical risks as compared to their male counterparts. In this case, they are susceptible to permanent medical damage. Secondly, women act as distractions to the men on military duty. Military men are human beings like any other man who is not serving in the military. They are likely to be distracted by the women due to their sexual urges. In addition, this might expose women to sexual harassment while they are in active duty. In this case, women are at risk of getting sexual transmitted diseases. For this reasons, women should not be allowed to take duties in active combat. On the other hand, they are also human beings and they need male companions. This means that they are going to indulge themselves in sexual relationships with men while they are in active duty. As a result, they might end up becoming pregnant while in duty. In this case, they are going to affect military operations since women have to be released for maternity. Therefore, based on the above analysis, women should not serve in combat.
