The rising up of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere is the major causative agent of global warming. Massive tree cutting leads to greater carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere. In addition, increased demand for land for buildings and factories, rapid urbanization, and high demand for timber all culminate into deforestation which leads to global warming. Over the last few years the world has experienced numerous dehumanizing natural disasters at a level not seen earlier in its history. People all over the world have witnessed strong indications of world climatic change caused by global warming. Greenhouse gases lead to the creation of a blanket-like substance around the Earth thereby trapping heat.

 Global warming is an up-to-date problem. It occurs because of massive emission of the greenhouse gas which is CO2 during the combustion of fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal. Apparently, humankind has become overly reliant on these fuels. People need them to provide gas for home heating, petrol for running cars’ engines, and electricity for using electric appliances. Expecting that peoples’ lifestyles will change radically is close to impossible. However, there are many ways of efficient energy use that do not lead to sidelining of people’s comforts.

Consequently, if greenhouse gases’ output does not reduce dramatically, dealing with high temperatures will become the order of the day. Moreover, humankind will have to deal with additional effects of climatic changes which include increased risks of floods and droughts. There has been a consistent rise in global temperatures for the last 140 years. It is a widely known fact that these changes are connected to greenhouse emissions whose increase has been on the rise due to fossil fuel combustion as well as rapid industrialization.

 As a result, world’s natural balance and its sophisticated weather systems get upset by increasing temperatures. The outcome of this has been the witnessing of a variety of effects in different places. For instance, some areas have become cooler while others have become warmer. This led to melting of polar ice caps and the rise of sea level. Adverse weather conditions have become more frequent and the spread of deserts across Europe has become evident. Moreover, climate change has hit some areas much harder whereby the slightest changes have had dramatic outcomes and led to severe weather and high temperatures. For instance, the disastrous weather patterns experienced in Orissa, India in recent times are caused by climatic change. The striking of a massive cyclone in 1999 killed 30000 people. In addition, severe flooding which occurred in 2001 left millions of people hungry and homeless as crops were swept away and ruined.

The prevailing climatic change is not simply a part of the natural cycle. It occurs due to the complex climate of Earth influenced by a variety of things, especially its orbit changes, changes in the levels of sun emitted energy, and volcanic eruptions. Records indicate the occurrence of cold or warm periods in the world in the past with zero human interference. A good example of global climatic change is the ice age as well as grapes grown during the warm periods in most areas of Britain. Over the last centuries Earth’s orbit changes around the sun primarily caused changes in temperatures. During this period, temperature changes influenced changes in carbon dioxide (CO2) levels. Ever since the industrial revolution began, carbon dioxide concentration has increased by a margin of 30 percent resulting from fossil fuels emissions induced by human activities. In the end, it is clear that carbon dioxide concentrations and changes in temperature are closely connected.

During ice ages natural climatic changes, such as those caused by orbit changes, led to the climate system’s cooling. This caused concentrations of carbon dioxide to fall resulting to the weakening of greenhouse effect as well as amplifying the cooling process. On the contrary, nowadays the correlation of the carbon dioxide and temperature level is reacting in the reverse direction. Consequently, carbon dioxide increases because humankind is propelling the greenhouse effect as well as amplifying current global warming.

The sun heats the Earth. Absorption of solar radiation occurs on the surface of the Earth as the radiation passes through the Earth’s atmosphere with small portions of the solar radiation reflected into space. This absorbed heat is lost readily through its emission as infrared radiation from the surface of the Earth. Fortunately, it is not easy for this infrared radiation to pass through the atmosphere if compared to the solar radiation. However, some of the infrared radiation gets trapped in a variety of gases that act in a similar manner yet different from the greenhouse gas. That causes heat to enter but does not allow for it to exit. This results to what is termed as the natural greenhouse effect which ensures the existence of life. Unfortunately, the enhancement of the natural greenhouse effect has been on the rise due to current human activities. Moreover, increased greenhouse gases’ concentrations in the atmosphere have enhanced the trapping of infrared emissions by the Earth’s surface. Consequently, less heat loss of the planet has resulted into extreme global warming. The conclusion is very sad since  the observed increases in temperature level will continue adding to the severity and frequency of weather patterns such as floods, storms, and heat waves.
