Custom Usage of Bananas in the World Essay

Banana is one of the first kinds of food tasted by a person and one of the first plants being cultivated. Now it is considered to be one of the first ten major cultivated plants of the world, and among fruit plants, it has come out on top, being ahead of grapes for the last time. Banana can be compared with wheat by its food value of fruits and the spread of its usage. Bananas are very rich in starch nutrients, which are found in the fruits that they produce. The banana fruits are widely used in making of fiber, ornamental plant and banana wine. The starch nutrients are highly demanded for various usage which led to the spread cultivations of banana fruits which are full of starch.

Banana in tropical zones of South East Asia (Sri Lanka) has been known for many thousands years. Wild banana is a little similar to what we are used to. Its fruits are rigid, with large seeds and almost without sweetness. Local tribes used wood grades of bananas as food similar to potato but in the form of a delicacy. They also fed their pets with wild fruits.

Banana is ranked as the most ancient cultivated plant. Fruit comes from the Southern India: one of the first mentions of it was found in the ancient Buddhist texts dated by the VI century BC. The first banana plantation appeared in China in the II century BC.

There is an assumption that a person preferred rhizomes, rich with carbohydrates, to fruits in the ancient times. As soon as a person tried out fruits, a triumphal procession of banana along the continents began. Thanks to the fact that the dried rhizome has kept its ability to reproduce for a long time by means of migration, tribes transferred the plant from one district to another.

Banana quickly became a pan-tropical crop. The banana shoot was brought by priest Thomas de Berlanka to the Latin American continent. Fruit was pleasant to the locals; therefore, the South and Central America became the second homeland of banana.

Various biological needs of the body demand high amounts of carbohydrates as well as starch. These needs lead to the development and domestication of a number of staple crops, for example, fruits, grains and legumes. There are other crops that are produced in various parts of the world, which do not have any nutrient value; the motive behind production of these crops is not well known (Editors, 2006). Bananas, which are rich in nutrient value, are widely cultivated in more than one hundred and seven countries across the globe. The widely spread usage of bananas can therefore be said to be due to their rich nutrient value and its wide range of usage in the world today.

Bananas are useful, first of all, due to the vitamins they contain. The pulp of bananas contains vitamin C which helps to cope with winter colds and infections. Being an antioxidant, it slows down the process of aging of an organism, prevents the emergence of early wrinkles. It is rich in vitamins group B, wonderful means against a stress, sleeplessness, brittle hair and spots; carotene, which not only slows down an aging process but also protects an organism from cancer and cardiovascular diseases. There is also vitamin E in bananas, which prolongs life of cells, makes skin smooth and elastic, and at the same time it is responsible for a good mood. It is established that bananas are remarkable and absolutely harmless energizers. The sweet pulp of bananas promotes the formation of the substance called serotonin in a human body which is called a happiness hormone. Therefore, a daily use of bananas will help to cope with melancholy and irritability.

By eating only two bananas a day, you compensate the deficiency of potassium in the organism and manage to get rid of muscular weakness, pain and fatigue, become physically more active and mentally brighter; a missing appetite will return to you; and skin will cease to be shelled. Potassium helps to fight against the raised blood pressure and promotes strengthening of a cardiac muscle. The Norwegian scientists found out that if a person eats bananas daily, he/she will not be required to drink medicine for pressure decrease.

At the expense of fibrous structure bananas are useful for stomach; they are recommended to be used instead of all other fruit during the exacerbations of chronic gastritis with the increased and normal acidity and other stomach problems.

Bananas are especially useful for people suffering from cardiovascular insufficiency, complicated by hypostases, a hypertensive illness, diseases of kidneys, liver and gastrointestinal tracts. They are essential in diabetes.

Physicians recommend children and elderly people to include more bananas into a daily diet. It is interesting that only one banana a day helps women to endure PDS without serious consequences. Bananas restore energy quickly after long trainings and are good as “fillings” before physical activities.

As for people, who would like to lose extra kilos, it is not advisable to eat too many bananas, but it is not necessary to exclude them from a diet. There is not less calories in a banana than in a potato – the worst enemy of growing thin ladies. Therefore, for those who keep to a diet, it is better to use bananas as house cosmetics instead of a nourishing dessert.

The harm of bananas can also be observed. First, as they come from tropics, it is not recommended to include fruits from other countries to the food diet of children under the age of 3. The reason is that, in the organism of any person, there is a genetically put ability to digest that food, which is characteristic for the district where he/she lives. So, if an adult possesses an easily adapting digestive system, capable to digest new products, a small child can result in an allergic reaction.

The harm of bananas, especially for overweight people, owing to its caloric content, is doubtless. However, it does not mean that this fruit should be absolutely excluded from a diet, but its use should be limited and coordinated with the doctor.

The use of bananas in food is also undesirable to the patients with thrombophlebitis, a coronary heart disease and to all who have an increased coagulability of blood. It is caused by the fact that bananas, removing liquid from an organism, promote a blood condensation, therefore, these conditions can be aggravated.

According to the content of sugary nutrients and mineral salts, easily digested by a human organism, as well as the existence of a wide complex of vitamins, bananas are one of the most valuable fruit plants which are more and more frequently used in medical practice. The consumption of 1-2 bananas a day has a steady toning effect: mood, concentration of attention and working capacity raise, fatigue decreases, and the organism is cleared. Both fresh and dried bananas are rich with natural sugar which gets to blood quickly after digestion. Some researchers consider that the diet, rich with such badly digested starch, causes a low incidence of stomach cancer. Now there are carried out new researches, the purpose of which is to establish that a starch as well as cellulose is important for the prevention of stomach cancer. The study will also determine how the need for starch and richness of bananas in starch content has led to its spread and usage for various purposes all over the world.
