Custom Why I Would Be a Teacher Essay

Teaching is described as one of the world’s noble professions. It is defined as the art of providing or passing an education to school going pupils and students at school or in any other setting recognized formally as an education center (Killen, 2006). In modern times, teaching is not only conducted in physical locations but also virtually, that is online through the internet. It is carried out by professionals who have qualified in educational studies as teachers, tutors, lecturers, and professors. Where teaching is conducted at informal places such as homes, it is referred to as informal teaching.

There are many rationales used to justify why most people would desire to become teachers. However, teaching is not a profession that would best suit everyone (Gilbertson, 2011). The following is a summary of reasons on why I would become a teacher. Firstly, teaching acts as a conduit through which education and knowledge is passed from a reservoir of knowledge, the teacher, to persons initially deficient of that knowledge, the pupils, and students. This is most noble. As such, the knowledge transfer ensures continuous success against ignorance.

The satisfaction that comes with enabling students to discover their potential, and eventually become successful is another justification of becoming a teacher. This is through helping students to learn and understand new concepts. Transforming young minds into great thinking minds is what actually drives teachers. Every new school year the classroom brings with it pupils with different potentials and abilities and thus presents a new challenge to the teacher.

The calling to become a servant leader through teaching is also a reason why I would become a teacher. As a calling, teaching becomes a special assignment in life. Earlier, I noted that teaching might not necessarily fit everyone who wants to become a teacher. This is because as a calling, teaching entails the continuous dedication and commitment to the students. This ensures that only the best is brought out of the students. It is regardless of rewards that may be associated with it (Gilbertson, 2011).

However, the success of any undertaking requires motivation and reward, therefore as well. The important link between the two is that reward is thought of as the result of motivation. Extrinsic motivation leads people into performing certain duties only because of the extrinsic or external rewards that are offered and not because they enjoy the tasks. These extrinsic rewards include money, recognition, and admiration. Intrinsic motivation, on the other hand, refers to the need or desire to perform a duty, not for praise or monetary reward, but because it is pleasing and enjoyable to do it. The intrinsic reward here is the feeling of achievement. A teacher does not only get extrinsic rewards, but also enjoys the intrinsic rewards that come with teaching.

Great leaders, professionals and most people in the community have at least passed through some form of schooling. Their contribution to the economy, to their families and to the society is felt and appreciated. Teachers, therefore, impact the community through the persons that they nurture and help discover their potentials. Teachers, as change agents are, therefore, appreciated by many as characters one would want to look up to, that is, role models. This is also a rewarding reason that contributes to my wish to become a teacher (Killen, 2006).

In conclusion, the decision to become a teacher encompasses many reasons as discussed above. It not only contributes to my individual growth but also to the development of other people in the society.
