Art has often played a critical role in the lives of people. The case of Japanese history affirms the same position. For instance, haiga and zenga were dominant in art. Their levels of improvisation were spot on as they were able to bring out the distinctive attributes of the synthetic styles of the Japanese. From the artistic paintings the duo produced, it is possible to discern the inner sense of whatever phenomenon that was being focused on. Specifically, the works of zenga painting, which Zen inspired, proved fascinating. Zen focused on expressing economic phenomenon using artistic impressions.

Shinto was a cult that epitomized beauty. It influenced the direction of Japanese aesthetics in regards to the understanding of the world of art in terms of evolution. The leaning towards indigenous culture by the Japanese is instrumental in understanding why the Japanese remained isolated from the world for a long time.

The fact that paintings reflected secularism supports the notion that religion was a key aspect in the Japanese culture. Specifically, the aesthetic theory of Tosa Mitsuoki, which centered on a sacred orientation were relegated in favor of secular ones. The Zen aesthetics were dominant during the Middle Ages. Attempts to secularize the Zen arts were a reflection of an attempt to return to the past. Based on the Zen aesthetics, boundless space is exalted. Similarly, the substantiality regarding non-existence was seen as spontaneous, seamless and vital as a process. Thus, in the Zen culture time and space is nonexistent in regards to its beginning and ending.

The Japanese concept of "less is more" reflects their conceptualization of space between objects or things. The concept primarily relates to art. This ancient aspect has however continued to influence the daily lives of the Japanese people. This helps me to understand why the Japanese value taking breaks whenever they are engaged in any issue. It emerges that unlike the Chinese and the Indians, the Japanese aesthetics traditions do not span over lengthy periods. Instead, evolution of aesthetics has occurred internally giving rise to new variants.
