Free Example of Hills like White Elephants by Hemingway Essay

Ernest Hemingway’s Hills like White Elephants is a short story that amounts to a conversation between a man and his girlfriend Jig. The main theme of the story is failure to communicate and understand the point of view of the dearest person. The American keeps telling about his love and argues round the subject of the abortion he wants Jig to have. The girl is dependent on him even in her inability to speak Spanish but she is indecisive about the operation. The story is also focused on the theme of readiness to make changes and crucial decisions at the life crossroads. Hemingway reflects on the theme of personal responsibility, growing up, development of life priorities and dynamics of relationships. The readers do not learn what the actual decision of the characters is, since the story is mostly about choices, influence they make and acceptance of a new identity of a person.
