In the recent years, the world has been experiencing the climate change due to global warming and other environmental factors, which has lead frequent disasters and uncontrolled catastrophes. The need to protect my community from these unpredictable occurrences has been a great challenge in terms of finding the measures to provide safety and aid when the need arises. The government alone cannot deal with disaster safety without the society or other stakeholders providing the necessary support and aid. The disaster causes huge destruction of property and even the loss of lives, hence proper community involvement should be encouraged to deal with the consequences. Due to the increase in disasters across the world today, emergency disaster management should be created to scan, evaluate, and implement the possible steps the community should follow to recover from any emergency. The following are the possible plans that I will keep in mind while involving my community in mitigating and recovering from any disaster.

Understanding the community living principles

Community structure needs

This will help to define the structure of the community in terms of its population set up, religion, standard norms, and how it relates with other communities. It will also help to understand what knowledge the community requires in emergency management to correspond with their norms and living standards.

Powering the community

Powering the community will help me make sure every member of the society is involved in disaster management regardless of their gender, disability, and other social categories. Therefore, the community can work together during and after the disaster since it is empowered to work as a team.

Strengthening the community

This will be of great help since if the community is encouraged to do their best, they will improve their performance. It will help in terms of emergency management, because everyone participating in the safety exercise will be motivated that all actions they are undertaking are vital in terms of controlling or reducing disaster damage and loss of lives.

The three above community principles will create a channel to the establishment of strategies which will help them in terms of mitigation and recovery from emergency incidences. This plan will only succeed if we have the above three principle: community structure, powering the community, and the community strengthening program. These principles will provide a way for establishment of strategies which will be effective and efficient in terms of recovery of the community from any disaster. The following are the strategy themes which should be implemented in my plan in terms of providing the required support and aid to assist those who have been affected by the disaster.

Evaluating and understanding community complexity

This strategy involves looking at the structures of the community in terms of leadership, population late, social and economic activities, relationship with other communities, and the level of crime. Through evaluating the community variables above, we get better understanding of the community and find better ways of collaboration in disaster management. This strategy is of much assistance because we are aware of the community bonds. These will help in recovering from emergency incidence in an effective way, since we understand how the community is made and how we can teach them disaster management programs. This will help in determining the capability of the community under study for effective planning in disaster management

Reorganize what the community can do best

This can help in emergency management in many ways, since we understand the areas where the community performs well and where it performs poorly. The statistics gathered enable us to develop understanding of what the community is capable of doing when the disaster occurs and which sections they should be educated in and improve on to become more effective in emergency incidents.

Good relationship with the community leaders

Community leaders are very influential in terms of governance in their community. They should be included in the plan, which is aimed to provide assistance in managing emergency incidents. The community leaders possess understanding of the community they lead and what people like and dislike. They can be instrumental in encouraging people to participate in programs that will help in managing disasters in case they occur in their society.

Long-lasting partnership

This strategy will enable the emergency managing organization to strike a good relationship with its partners who play vital role in mitigating disasters. Having trusted partners in the community will ensure that, in case any material support is required during and after the occurrence, they will be willing and available to provide it. These partners include government and non-government organizations, clubs and churches, as well as other sponsors in the society.

Empowering Community Local Action

Since the government cannot tackle the disaster issues effectively due to the lack of resources and commitment, local leaders should empower local action by providing the direction of achieving the necessary objectives. This is very important, because empowering community agencies in performing a specific task will increase the efficiency and effectiveness in the mitigation of and recovery from an emergency incidence.

Improving social infrastructure

Infrastructure plays a vital role during and after the disaster. When the community has a poor infrastructure network, it becomes very hard for it to reach and communicate with other stakeholders for assistance. This means that properties may be destroyed and many people will lose their lives. To reduce these post-disaster incidents, we must improve on our infrastructure networks, which results in effective emergency incident control in disaster management.

Conclusion

Disaster management continues to be a challenge in the modern world, since there are poor disaster management programs. Government should come up with policies and regulations which will act as drivers in directing the implementation of the above discussed plans. The community, on the other part, needs to understand that the government cannot be effective in providing the above services and should undertake the consistent plan that will reduce the impacts the society will suffer after the disaster.
