The early historical arts were crucial to symbolism as the portrayed different aspects in the lives of the individuals in the society. This essay explains cubism and renaissance which are among the earlier historical periods.

This is a movement that was started in the early 20th century and was marked by works of great artists such as Picasso and Barque. Their art produced a great effect on abstract art of the 20th century and the distinctive feature of Cubists was the resemblance of their work to geometric figures. Among the best samples of this art was Palette and Violin that was cubic, flat and abstract. Picasso’s works marked the shift of emphasis from classical art to the modern one. Barque and Picasso gave life to a new, different style. Cubism can be seen as an advanced art movement that modernized the European painting and sculpture in the early 20th century. The main essence of cubism is that instead of viewing the subjects from a fixed angle, the artist breaks them up into a multiplicity of aspect, so that numerous features of the subject can be seen at the same time. Cubism is a wonderful way to express the complexity and depth of world in a more simplified manner.

Cubism is a unique format where the square shapes are formed together. They were also softened with curves. In the cubists’ artworks, objects were broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in a form that was abstracted. The artists depicted the subject of their painting from a several viewpoints to represent the subject in wide context instead of one viewpoint.

The background and the object planes interpenetrate with one another and create the shallow ambiguous space. The Cubist style put more emphasis on the flat and two-dimensional surface of the picture plane and it rejects the traditional perspectives of foreshortening and disproving the theories of art as a replication of nature. The cubist painters present new realities their paintings that depict radically fragmented objects, whose several aspects can be realized simultaneously. With the Analytical Cubism, a very limited earth tone color scheme was used and the subjects include simple still life arrangements viewed from multiple angles. On the other hand more and brighter colors appear in Synthetic Cubism. There are also more defined and recognizable objects and forms which posses more three dimensional appearances (Robinson S. 2005.pg 9-20)
