After reading of “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor and “On Her Own Work” I revealed a lot of interesting facts about this short story. There were a lot of moments which I could not understand when I read the story. This article helped me to clarify some details.
It was a bit strange that the Grandmother referred to herself constantly as a “lady”. However when I read “On Her Own Work” I got to know that this short story was built on grotesque. Frankly speaking it seemed to me that the Grandmother was violent and cruel woman. Her actions were strange and difficult for understanding. However after reading “On Her Own Work” I found that she was a kind-hearted woman, with a good sense of humour. Flannery O’Connor gives the reader a good opportunity to appreciate the actions and behavior of the Grandmother. As we see the thoughts were different.
Yes, I agree that the act of the Grandmother was the act of charity and grace. There is so much violence in the world. Flannery O’Connor teaches us not to be indifferent and cruel and persuades us that it is possible to find a good man. I have revealed why so difficult was to understand that the old lady was kind-hearted. It was hard to recognize because we have the stereotypical perception of evil and good. The are so many cruel people that we do not distinguish difference between evil and good.
