Global diversity is a core course for managers and individuals who want to gain knowledge and understand the best practices for working in multinational companies or in global business environments. The course is divided in five sections which cover a wide range of global issues. The first section involves understanding cultural diversity in global business. This section has several subsections which include the key concepts in global diversity, the role of European leadership in globalization. This section was considered as the introductory section in this course.

The next section engages recruitment, selection, and placement in the global context a course which was focusing on the boundary less organization and the process of building a global workforce. Another area which is covered by this section is the faces of global culture (Albrecht, 2001). Under this section the learner is capable of articulating the implications of a global workforce and business ethic awareness across different cultures (Yasgoor & Bressler, 2008).

The third section in the study of global diversity includes learning about training and development across the global diversity. The subsections which fall under global training and development include diversity training, training people across cultures, strategy and human resource management initiatives and global dual career couple mentoring (Albrecht, 2001).

Employee relation at global perspective was the fourth section of global diversity studies course. This section includes subsections such as the multicultural organization, managing diversity in human resources, coming to terms with local people and managing the third culture man (Albrecht, 2001). This section is important because it enables individuals to appreciate diversity. The final section of this course was issues in global a cultural diversity. This section focused on putting our ethic to a global test, diversity stress and cultural diversity programs aimed at preparing workforce in the twenty first century (Albrecht, 2001).

Based on content described above, what theories (rules, laws, principles, or patterns) are you able to identify?

Based on the content above, the global diversity program should be able to fit the needs of learners or professionals participating in the training program across different industries and functions. Yasgoor & Bressler says that through this course learners are able to apply global issues which include international law, culture, local management approaches, best practices and societal norms (2008). One of the theories which can be identified is that trainees in this course become aware of expectations that clash with ethical standards in different cultural settings.

In the section of employee relations learners are able to understand the context of mixed culture regulations and employee obligations in the global perspective. Besides the above individuals studying this course indentify antitrust laws that must be considered in recruiting workforce for multinational companies and also understanding international contracts with employees (Albrecht, 2001). The principles of navigating in the business world in which good practices in one culture may be unethical are also learned from this global diversity course.

Rules of upholding ethical standards by addressing the underlying needs and expectations of the business environment are also studied n this course (Yasgoor & Bressler, 2008). The laws of complying with foreign regulations as they arise are also studies in the section dealing with issues in global and cultural diversity. One is also able to learn about the patterns global leadership competencies to understand the flexibility to work and manage people across cultures (Yasgoor & Bressler, 2008).

How have you applied the information from questions 1 and 2 on your job? Give specific examples.

During my career I was able to apply the knowledge gained from this course in different areas. Since I was working in a banking institution, I was able to come up with and develop, implement, administer and evaluate experts and foreign national compensation and benefit programs. This program was of great importance especially to foreign employees because of the need to understand their cultural backgrounds (Yasgoor & Bressler, 2008). Under the human resource department, I was also assigned the task of developing, selecting, implementing and evaluating flexible work arrangements and diversity programs for employees form different parts of the world.

In addition, context the course in global diversity prepared a level playing ground and work experience for me being an external consultant on the banks international partnership development besides being involved in change management of the bank. This was based on the fact that through the course I had credibility in of intercultural communication and workforce development.

How can you apply (or have you applied) this information in your personal life and other jobs? Give specific examples.

In my personal life information and knowledge gained from this course has played an integral role especially in my career development and interacting with people from different cultures and ethical settings. Considering that this was not my native country, the course helped me to fit in the job titles and responsibilities which I was accorded. As a result I was able to work without feeling being left out or being misunderstood. During this period I felt welcomed, and it provided me with the time and structure to establish relationship with other employees hence encouraging me to continuing to work for the bank.

In conclusion information gained from this course helped me to realize that I was working in a multicultural and global environment and therefore I was able to embrace cultural differences. On top of that I have been able to characterize conducts that are correlated with sensation factors while working in a global environment. I am also able to adapt to cultural differences which may impact general business practices and my career as well.
