Whether one is working at a well-known or upcoming company, the pressure to deliver remains immense. Since competition is stiff, marketing budgets are often cut. Hence, marketing departments need to achieve their goals using the available resources. Since I have acquired new knowledge in marketing, I intend to utilize it in my workplace. The proposals relate to a company that produces oral hygiene products. Mariampolski (2001) indicates that, the current market for oral hygiene stands at £442m, with only a few companies dominating the market, for example GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Colgate Palmolive who own the top five brands on sales mostly done through supermarkets. Other key players in the toothpaste market include Procter and Gamble, Lever Faberge, Reckitt Benckiser, and Pfizer Consumer Healthcare.
The social networking, customer service and public relations are the areas I would seek to improve. The company that I work for has already run Twitter and Facebook pages. Since the pages are not yielding results as expected, refocusing them is a primary concern. The pages need rebuilding in order to improve the company’s networking reputation. An improvement on the social networking platform would help the company to lever up against other industry players.
The second area that needs improvement is the customer service department. According to the current economic trends, no single aspect assumes more significance than customer loyalty. Customer service is critical in building loyalty which is also crucial since it guarantees improved sales. Loyal customers also contribute towards the growth and development of a brand. Although the area of marketing is often overlooked, in the recent times, it is difficult to ignore it. Thus, improving customer service would help the company to create a positive reputation and enhance its business.
It is noticeable that there is more to say about a business than it was some time before. For instance, regular press releases on the company events are desirable. Similarly, news on upgrades is significant as they inform customers about the progress that the company makes. It is also necessary to capture the interest of journalists by generating unique content. Regarded to all said above, the company should reposition itself by reorganizing its public relations department.
